8/7/2013: Shahar Zuban takes silver medal at European Championships

Israeli windsurfer Shahar Zubari took the silver medal yesterday after finishing second in the European Windsurfing Championships in Brest, France. 26-year-old Zubari hadn't won a major medal for 3 years until Sunday's triumph. His last major medal before Sunday was the Gold Medal at the European Championships 2010. Zubari who also got a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing is currently being coached by Gal Fridman who won the windsurfing gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter met this morning with the president of the the Israel Football Association, Guy Luzon on the start of his 2 day trip in Israel. Blatter will also meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this afternoon in Jerusalem. "I am happy to be here. I am smiling," said Blatter on his arrival in Israel, "I have come to Israel in order to speak to my good friend Avi Luzon. I am here to talk about football and i will also be having a meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu".

Hapoel Ra'anana had their first pre-season friendly match today against Maccabi Netanya. Ra'anana won the game 1-0 through a goal by Noam Evgi in the 88th minute.

M.S Ashdod have made a new contract with center back Shai Maimon that will keep the Israeli at the club for another year. Maimon who is now 27 years of age played 7 games and scored one goal last season for Ashdod. "I am happy to spend another season at Ashdod", Maimon said after signing, "I think that this is the best place for me".

Basketball:
Hapoel Jerusalem have released Israeli center Uri Kokia, ending Kokia's stint at Hapoel that lasted 4 years. The 32-year-old who can also play as a power forward was Hapoel's captain last season.
